Learning Language with the Book of Mormon
Award-winning publisher and ESL instructor shares how the Book of Mormon is an excellent tool for language learning. Many missionaries can attest to the power of the Book of Mormon—not only to change lives, but as a learning tool. After learning Spanish with the Book of Mormon, Karl Beckstrand is now using it to learn German.

Dianne is a gem. She came prepared with two presentations and is helping with the family church history trip planning. She came with different sets of clothes too. 🙂
We completed four presentations that day with her. First was her Learn Spanish using the Book of Mormon, next we filmed the introduction to the trip and the interview questions. Last we changed up the set and she taught us how to learn history using your own family history.
The Book of Mormon presentation was great, she had several examples and video clips. She also taught us practical ways to learn the language using at least 4 different colors to identify the verbs, pronouns, etc. In her history presentation I was amazed at the many different types of timelines she mentioned and showed (see below) It’s fun to be able to view timelines and the whole picture too. You will love these presentation. 🙂

Karl came into the home taller than expected. 🙂 He sat down and discussed his two presentations in detail and then we went in to the studio room. I did the introduction with him. I found that I ran out of questions faster because he did not have any children. But quickly found more when we talked about the children’s books he had written.
Karl completed the first presentation with me about the Book of Mormon. He had successfully learned German by using the Book of Mormon. I especially loved his vocabulary (glossary) list at the back of his book. He also wrote the pronoun charts at the front.
His next presentation was given presentation style at first and soon found that it wasn’t flowing or alive as we wanted. David sat down with him and asked him questions while he gave his presentation. It was so much better. You’re going to enjoy learning about the humanities and how ideas of how to teach them in your home.
