Our Amazing Founders: Their Lives and Stories

We will learn the wonder and power of our US Constitution through the lives of the men and women who brought it into being. Join us to meet the Adams cousins, Samuel and John, and John’s wife, Abigail. Walk through the Declaration of Independence with Thomas Jefferson, and ride with George Washington into the Revolutionary War. Enjoy Benjamin Franklin’s great interventions and share the power of the finished Constitution with James Madison. As you learn to love those who sacrificed so much for us, you will understand why we must preserve our Constitution established by God. (See D&C 101:77-80)

Pamela Romney Openshaw is an avid student of the Constitution, developing her love of the political process and the citizen involvement as an elected delegate from Nebraska to President Jimmy Carter’s White House Conference on Families in 1980. She loves to read and study history, a BYU graduate in education, a former business owner, kindergarten, elementary, and high school teacher, and teacher of the Constitution. She is an experienced public speaker, addressing groups on the Constitution and related topics. She also was a speaker for the National Right to Life organization. Pam is the author of a complete homeschool curriculum on the Constitution including three books: 1) “Promises of the Constitution: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” which tells the history, founders, principles, changes to our God inspired Constitution, and suggestions for effective action in 129 short, 1 1/2 vignettes. 2) “Lessons of the Constitution, Student Workbook” with a scripture and three questions for student to think and write the answers on the 129 lessons. 3) “Lessons of the Constitution, Parent/Teacher Volume” that has a lesson plan with answers to student’s questions and tips for teaching and discussing each lesson. Pam is the mother of eight and grandmother of 29. She and her husband served a mission to Italy for the LDS Church from 2007 to 2009. She writes a weekly column for the Daily Herald newspaper and helps adults, families and homeschoolers know and love America, the Founding Fathers, and our Constitution. She teaches Gospel Doctrine classes in Sunday School.
